The **Bank of Lithuania** publishes the official exchange rates that accounting, tax, and customs rules in Lithuania reference — *published official rates*, not moving market prices. This guide shows how to pull them as JSON: via a REST endpoint or the zero-dependency [`bank-of-lithuania-exchange-rate`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/bank-of-lithuania-exchange-rate) npm package.

  EUR → AED — official Bank of Lithuania LT-list rate Weekly observations, Sep '25 – Sep '26 · UAE dirhams per 1 euro

*Source: Bank of Lithuania published rates · chart data from the AllRatesToday API (`/api/v1/central-bank/lb/history?source=EUR&target=AED`).*

## What the Bank of Lithuania publishes

- **The "LT" list** — around 87 currencies the ECB does not quote, from the UAE dirham (AED) and Afghan afghani (AFN) to the Zambian kwacha (ZMW), as foreign units per 1 EUR.
- **Reference-type rates** that Lithuanian accounting and VAT rules cite for euro conversion.
- **Posted in advance** — the bank publishes the next business day's table ahead of time, and every response carries the bank's own rate date.
- **History back to 2015 in our API**, queryable by exact date or as a series. (The ECB list the bank republishes is served separately under `ecb`.)

As a euro member, the Bank of Lithuania republishes the ECB reference list — but its own LT list is the part worth an API: the long tail of currencies the ECB never prints, each one an official euro rate Lithuanian filings can cite.

## Why official rates, not market rates

A live mid-market [exchange rate API](https://allratestoday.com/exchange-rate-api/) answers "what is EUR/AED trading at right now?" — the right tool for checkouts and dashboards. But accountants, auditors, and tax authorities ask a different question: "which rate were you *required* to use for this date?" That answer comes from the Bank of Lithuania's published rates, and it never changes after publication.

## Get the latest rates (REST)

```
curl "https://allratestoday.com/api/v1/central-bank/lb/latest" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
```

The response is the bank’s most recent published table — one row per pair in its own quoting direction, the publication date (`rate_date`) and a freshness flag. Live example captured 2026-10-09:

```
{
  "bank": "lb",
  "name": "Bank of Lithuania",
  "rate_date": "2026-10-09",
  "age_days": 1,
  "stale": false,
  "cadence": "daily",
  "rates": [
    {"base": "EUR", "quote": "AED", "type": "reference", "value": 4.16977},
    {"base": "EUR", "quote": "AFN", "type": "reference", "value": 73.70991},
    {"base": "EUR", "quote": "ALL", "type": "reference", "value": 92.04039},
    {"base": "EUR", "quote": "AMD", "type": "reference", "value": 412.66338},
    … 82 more rows
  ],
  "disclaimer": "Official rates as published by the named central bank. On weekends/holidays the most recent published rate_date is returned."
}
```

Most integrations need one pair. Add `source` and `target` and the API returns a single resolved rate — `derived: false` when Bank of Lithuania printed the pair itself:

```
curl "https://allratestoday.com/api/v1/central-bank/lb/latest?source=EUR&target=AED" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
```

```
{
  "bank": "lb",
  "name": "Bank of Lithuania",
  "rate_date": "2026-10-09",
  "source": "EUR",
  "target": "AED",
  "rate": 4.16977,
  "rate_type": "reference",
  "derived": false,
  "method": "published",
  "age_days": 1,
  "stale": false,
  "cadence": "daily",
  "disclaimer": "Official rates as published by the named central bank. On weekends/holidays the most recent published rate_date is returned."
}
```

The response is the bank's most recent published data — every rate and the publication date. The latest rates are available on every plan, including the free tier (300 free requests, no credit card).

## The npm SDK

```
npm install bank-of-lithuania-exchange-rate
```

```
import { getRate, getLatestRates } from 'bank-of-lithuania-exchange-rate';
// One pair at the official Bank of Lithuania rate
const pair = await getRate('EUR', 'AED', { apiKey: 'art_live_...' });
console.log(pair.rate, pair.rate_date);
// The bank's full published table
const table = await getLatestRates({ apiKey: 'art_live_...' });
console.log(table.rate_date, table.rates.length);
```

Zero dependencies, TypeScript types included, and it runs anywhere `fetch` exists — Node 18+, Bun, Deno, and edge runtimes.

## Historical rates for an invoice date

```
import { getRatesForDate, getHistory } from 'bank-of-lithuania-exchange-rate';
// The official rates for an invoice date — non-publication days return
// the most recent published date, flagged via published_on_requested_date.
const day = await getRatesForDate('2026-06-30', { apiKey: 'art_live_...' });
// Time series for one pair
const series = await getHistory(
  { source: 'EUR', target: 'AED', from: '2026-01-01' },
  { apiKey: 'art_live_...' }
);
```

Historical dates and time series need a [paid plan](https://allratestoday.com/pricing/); the latest rates stay free.

## Published vs derived pairs

If the Bank of Lithuania does not print a pair directly, the API resolves it from the bank's published rates — an inverse, or a cross rate via EUR — and flags it `derived: true` with the method used. Official and computed values are never silently mixed, which is exactly the distinction an auditor will ask about.

## The LT list since 2015

Our archive of the LT list runs from 2015 — every business day's table of the non-ECB currencies, stored with the bank's own rate date. For a Lithuanian VAT or accounting entry that needs, say, the euro–dirham rate for a past invoice date, one call returns it.

## FAQ

### Does the Bank of Lithuania have an official exchange rate API?

The Bank of Lithuania publishes its official rates on its own site, and AllRatesToday serves the same published rates as clean JSON via REST or the bank-of-lithuania-exchange-rate npm package. The latest table is free.

### How often do Bank of Lithuania rates update?

Once per business day, with the next business day's table posted in advance. These are reference rates in foreign units per euro; the API preserves the bank's own rate date so citations stay exact. The ECB list is served under the separate ecb source.

### Can I get the Bank of Lithuania rate for a past date, like an invoice date?

Yes. The /central-bank/lb/rates-for-date endpoint returns the official rates for any archived date. Non-publication days resolve to the most recent published date and are flagged, so your audit trail stays honest. Historical dates require a paid plan; latest rates are free.
