The **Central Bank of Belize** publishes the official exchange rates that accounting, tax, and customs rules in Belize reference — *published official rates*, not moving market prices. This guide shows how to pull them as JSON: via a REST endpoint or the zero-dependency [`central-bank-of-belize-exchange-rate`](https://www.npmjs.com/package/central-bank-of-belize-exchange-rate) npm package.

  GBP → BZD — official Central Bank of Belize selling rate Weekly observations, Sep '25 – Sep '26 · Belize dollars per 1 British pound

## What the Central Bank of Belize publishes

- **Daily buying and selling rates** for the US dollar, pound sterling, euro and Canadian dollar, in BZD per unit.
- **The 2:1 peg, as the bank prints it** — USD buying 2.00, selling 2.0175, unchanged since the archive begins.
- **The cross rates carry the story** — sterling 2.6619 / 2.7429, the euro 2.2870 / 2.3566 and the Canadian dollar 1.4227 / 1.4661 on 4 September 2026.
- **History back to 4 January 2010 in our API**, queryable by exact date or as a series, with the bank's own publication date on every response.

With the Belize dollar fixed at two to the US dollar, the table is really about sterling, the euro and the Canadian dollar — the currencies of Belize's tourists, importers and diaspora — and the Central Bank of Belize buying and selling rates are the official reference for converting them in customs valuations, tax filings and bank transactions.

## Why official rates, not market rates

A live mid-market [exchange rate API](https://allratestoday.com/exchange-rate-api/) answers "what is USD/BZD trading at right now?" — the right tool for checkouts and dashboards. But accountants, auditors, and tax authorities ask a different question: "which rate were you *required* to use for this date?" That answer comes from the Central Bank of Belize's published rates, and it never changes after publication.

## Get the latest rates (REST)

```
curl "https://allratestoday.com/api/v1/central-bank/cbbz/latest" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
```

The response is the bank’s most recent published table — one row per pair in its own quoting direction, the publication date (`rate_date`) and a freshness flag. Live example captured 2026-10-09:

```
{
  "bank": "cbbz",
  "name": "Central Bank of Belize",
  "rate_date": "2026-10-09",
  "age_days": 1,
  "stale": false,
  "cadence": "daily",
  "rates": [
    {"base": "CAD", "quote": "BZD", "type": "buy", "value": 1.38},
    {"base": "CAD", "quote": "BZD", "type": "sell", "value": 1.422},
    {"base": "EUR", "quote": "BZD", "type": "buy", "value": 2.2048},
    {"base": "EUR", "quote": "BZD", "type": "sell", "value": 2.272},
    … 4 more rows
  ],
  "disclaimer": "Official rates as published by the named central bank. On weekends/holidays the most recent published rate_date is returned."
}
```

Most integrations need one pair. Add `source` and `target` and the API returns a single resolved rate — `derived: false` when Central Bank of Belize printed the pair itself:

```
curl "https://allratestoday.com/api/v1/central-bank/cbbz/latest?source=USD&target=BZD" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
```

```
{
  "bank": "cbbz",
  "name": "Central Bank of Belize",
  "rate_date": "2026-10-09",
  "source": "USD",
  "target": "BZD",
  "rate": 2,
  "rate_type": "buy",
  "derived": false,
  "method": "published",
  "age_days": 1,
  "stale": false,
  "cadence": "daily",
  "disclaimer": "Official rates as published by the named central bank. On weekends/holidays the most recent published rate_date is returned."
}
```

The response is the bank's most recent published data — every rate and the publication date. The latest rates are available on every plan, including the free tier (300 free requests, no credit card).

## The npm SDK

```
npm install central-bank-of-belize-exchange-rate
```

```
import { getRate, getLatestRates } from 'central-bank-of-belize-exchange-rate';
// One pair at the official Central Bank of Belize rate
const pair = await getRate('USD', 'BZD', { apiKey: 'art_live_...' });
console.log(pair.rate, pair.rate_date);
// The bank's full published table
const table = await getLatestRates({ apiKey: 'art_live_...' });
console.log(table.rate_date, table.rates.length);
```

Zero dependencies, TypeScript types included, and it runs anywhere `fetch` exists — Node 18+, Bun, Deno, and edge runtimes.

## Historical rates for an invoice date

```
import { getRatesForDate, getHistory } from 'central-bank-of-belize-exchange-rate';
// The official rates for an invoice date — non-publication days return
// the most recent published date, flagged via published_on_requested_date.
const day = await getRatesForDate('2026-06-30', { apiKey: 'art_live_...' });
// Time series for one pair
const series = await getHistory(
  { source: 'USD', target: 'BZD', from: '2026-01-01' },
  { apiKey: 'art_live_...' }
);
```

Historical dates and time series need a [paid plan](https://allratestoday.com/pricing/); the latest rates stay free.

## Published vs derived pairs

If the Central Bank of Belize does not print a pair directly, the API resolves it from the bank's published rates — an inverse, or a cross rate via BZD — and flags it `derived: true` with the method used. Official and computed values are never silently mixed, which is exactly the distinction an auditor will ask about.

## Sixteen years of the official table

Our archive starts on 4 January 2010 — every published buying and selling rate since, stored with its publication date. The dollar leg never moves; the sterling, euro and Canadian legs record every swing from the 2016 sterling drop to the 2022 euro low, and any of them is one call away for a given date.

## FAQ

### Does the Central Bank of Belize have an official exchange rate API?

The Central Bank of Belize publishes its official rates on its own site, and AllRatesToday serves the same published rates as clean JSON via REST or the central-bank-of-belize-exchange-rate npm package. The latest rates are free (300 free requests); historical dates need a paid plan.

### How often do Central Bank of Belize rates update?

Once per business day, as buying and selling rates for four currencies. The Belize dollar is pegged at 2 per US dollar, so the USD row is constant while GBP, EUR and CAD move; every API response carries the bank's publication date.

### Can I get the Central Bank of Belize rate for a past date, like an invoice date?

Yes. The /central-bank/cbbz/rates-for-date endpoint returns the official rates for any archived date. Non-publication days resolve to the most recent published date and are flagged via published_on_requested_date.

## Official Central Bank of Belize rates, as JSON

The latest rates are free — 300 free requests, no credit card.
